There are people in Mirny whose name sounds not as a «person from the past», but as a part of the town's backbone. Raisa Ivanovna Tomilova is one of them. Even living in Moscow for many years, she kept coming back to Mirny: almost every year, by invitation - for anniversaries, memorable dates, city events. Her arrival at a celebration was always read in the same way: it was not a formality, but a sign of respect for her real work and the era she epitomized.
Mirny residents remembered her as modest, hardworking and principled. She was remembered not for her loud words, but for her habit of keeping the plan, keeping the quality, to keep people - demanding and honest. Therefore, she remained a part of the city memory not “by position”, but by essence.
Raisa Tomilova came to Mirny in 1960. She started as a separator operator at Mill No. 1. When the third enrichment plant was built, she became the best shift foreman there and then the head of the finishing shop. In 1981 she received the star of the Hero of Socialist Labor. On her own initiative she took charge of the weakest shifts, taught them how to work - and for several years in a row her team set records of productivity records for processing diamond ore.

Raisa Ivanovna was born in the Smolensk region, from 1955 she lived in the Belorussian SSR, where she graduated from school. In 1960 she moved to Mirny. In her early memoirs and in the urban context, this move usually sounds without pathos: she came to work and stayed for decades.
She started at Factory No. 1, and then worked at Processing Plant No. 3 processing diamond ore: she was a transportation operator, from 1967 she worked as a shift foreman in the finishing shop, and then as a section and shop manager. Over these years, her main image in the city was formed: a person who does not “play” discipline, but lives it - calmly, tough on herself and fair to others.
On the anniversary days, Raisa Ivanovna traveled with veterans to the memorials of Mirny and recalled the people she worked with, - including how strict and demanding Lev Soldatov, the second director of the Yakutalmaz Trust, was.

Raisa Tomilova received the Star of Hero of Socialist Labor in 1981.
