Dumpis Max Frantsevich - MGRI, Geophysical Department

In 1928, after serving in Kashgar, M.F. Dumpis left diplomatic activity. In the same year, he joined the Water Management Section of the USSR State Planning Committee. At the same time he entered the Moscow Mining Academy, and after its division into independent universities, in 1932, he graduated from the geophysical faculty of the Moscow State Research Institute of Geophysics, where he remained on teaching work.

In October 1931, M.F. Dumpis was appointed Chairman of the Methodological Bureau and Deputy Dean of the Geophysical Faculty. The dean (and founder) of the faculty at that time was its scientific director Alexander Ignatyevich Zaborovsky.

Zakharov, Evgeny Evgenyevich

Between 1942 and 1946, he held the positions of Director, Acting Director, and Deputy Director of MGRI.

Historical Background: Chairman of the Method Bureau and Deputy Dean of the Geophysical Faculty Max Frantsevich Dumpis was a cadre member of Soviet military intelligence. In the 1920s he worked under diplomatic cover as Consul General in Persia, Afghanistan and China; he actively assisted the N.K. Roerich expedition (1925-1926). Arrested on December 23, 1937, shot on February 19, 1938, rehabilitated on May 5, 1956.
